The Louisville Assembly Plant, where it all began for 2 out of 3 Edsels, is also where it
all ended on November 19, 1959, as Ford Motor Company announced its plans to discontinue
the Edsel automobile. The last scheduled 1960 Edsel production units rolled off the
assembly line on that date, and the Edsel’s unique place in automotive history
was assured. Now you are invited to join with other Edsel owners to gather
at this historic location exactly 50 years later - to celebrate the end of the
Edsel production era and the beginning of the Edsel legend.
Ford UAW personnel have graciously invited our group to tour the facility, which
still operates fifty years later, for a 1˝ hour tour. However,
this is contingent on the plant facility being open on that day
and with the current uncertainty in the auto industry, this will not
be known until closer to the tour date. In the event that the facility
is temporarily shutdown at that time, we have been promised at least a look
at the chassis area of the factory, and photo opportunities outside the plant
will, of course, be available.
For those who can arrive a bit early, you are invited to display your car
for LAP retirees who are meeting on Nov. 18th, near the factory. There will
likely be workers in attendance who built Edsels, and who could relate some
stories of their Edsel experiences.

of Edsel you will be driving, if any. Also indicate if you would be available for
the Wednesday (Nov.18) noon gathering, as lunch will be provided for participants.

Hotel accommodations are of your own choosing and there are several choices quite
close to the factory along Fern Valley Road.
